In this section we explain how our online courses work.
Course Features
Online courses in the Network - Human Kinetics Online Education Centre are designed to be taken as a self-contained learning experience, taken without the interaction of an instructor. The courses consist of an online component, which directs you through a series of learning experiences to help you understand and use the course content, and a variety of supplemental student resource materials including print texts, PDFs, videocassettes, and CD-ROMs (these vary by course, and not all courses include supplemental resource materials).
The course lessons are not just printed material transferred into digital form. They are designed to give you a meaningful opportunity to interact with the subject matter in a way that will facilitate your learning. We develop our courses by teaming up the best content experts with our instructional designers to create a powerful learning experience for you.
Most of our continuing education courses are problem centered. That is, we identify the principles necessary to solve common problems and guide you through the process of learning how to apply these principles to solve a series of realistic problems that you might encounter. It's a powerful, effective way to learn.
Course Registration
When you're ready to register for a course, select the Course Catalogue button here or on the navigation bar on the left. Find the course you wish to register for and click the title. After reviewing the information, you may proceed through the online purchasing process. Here's what to expect once you've registered:
1. We'll promptly send you the student resource materials. Most courses come with support materials in the form of a printed text, and some also include a videocassette or a CD-ROM. If you already have the text for the course, you may opt to purchase the course without text.
2. After registering for the course, you may access the course immediately. Click the My Courses button on the left hand navigation bar in order to begin the online course. Sign on with the email address and password that you registered with and follow the online instructions for taking the course.
3. When you receive your support materials in the mail, you will also receive a KEY CODE. This key code will give you access to the course exam. To use the key code, go to the Network - Human Kinetics Online Education Centre (at http://afn.hkeducationcenter.com) and click on the My Courses button. You'll be asked to sign on with your email address and password.
4. Click the "Enter Key Code" button on the My Courses screen. This will take you to a new page where you must enter your key code exactly as it is printed on the letter you receive with your materials (including hyphens). If you have trouble entering the key code or receive an error, contact support@hkusa.com.
5. After entering your key code, you will also be asked to choose your organisation for credits. Use the dropdown list to choose your organisation.
6. The "My Courses" page will now be updated so that you may enter the exam at any time.
7. If you fail an exam, you will be given a link to purchase a retake when you click the "Exam Info" link on the "My Courses" page. Once the retake has been processed, you will receive a new key code via email.
8. Once you have passed an exam, you may click the "Exam Info" link on the My Courses page in order to either view the results from the exam, email a copy of the results to yourself, and/or to print out a certificate for your organisation.
